Serving Christ and God's People for 128 years

Strength in Numbers! Strength in Christ!

The Congregations of St. Barnabas Church, Apponaug and St. Mary’s Church, Warwick Neck have joined together as one Parish.  Our larger, more diverse Parish now has a broader base and a firmer foundation for continued success.  Under the roof of St Barnabas in Apponaug, we look forward to new programs and wider participation from all members of the Church community.  Many hands make light work!  We welcome you to join us as our Churches move ahead in this next chapter of their over 200 years of collective history serving God in Warwick.

Welcome to St. Barnabas Church!

St. Barnabas has been the central Episcopal parish in Warwick for over 125 years.  If you are new to our tradition, it might help you to know that the Episcopal Church is the American partner in the Worldwide Anglican Communion, a body of over 70 million Christians who are united to each other in a common history connecting us to the Church of England and similar liturgies which reflect both ancient Christian worship and the principles of the Reformation.  We have maintained the Ordered Ministry, Sacraments and Creeds of the Early Church and also emphasize the priority of Scripture and the need for personal faith.   We are a Church which encourages a diversity of opinion as members come to understand the meaning and role of faith in their own lives.  You will find a wide variety of opinions about every issue -- the one thing we agree on is the need to be agreeable, even as we disagree!

St. Barnabas is proud of its liturgical tradition which focuses on the celebration of the Holy Eucharist every Sunday morning.  In two different masses we regularly offer you the chance to worship using either the dignified traditional language which has graced Anglican worship for 450 years or the more contemporary language that has been part of our worship since the 1970s.   Episcopalians know of these options as "Rite I" and "Rite II."  All persons who have been baptized in any church are invited to receive communion whenever we gather to celebrate the Eucharist.  If you have any question about whether you can receive Holy Communion, please ask us and together we can clarify how you can best participate in worship.

Serving our community is also a large part of our church life.  From hosting AA groups, Boy Scouts and other community groups, to regularly collecting items for the Food Pantry, to supplying coats and blankets to help the homeless, to providing supervision for court ordered community service, to participating in church and community charitable fund drives, we are very active in making our community, state and world a better place.

At St. Barnabas Church we are dedicated to serving Christ in the world in which we live.  We believe that his Gospel is good news for all people everywhere and that Christian faith equips us to live fully in the world which God has made.  We hope you enjoy this chance to explore our parish in the privacy of your computer and feel inspired to join with us in worship, education and service.
